I would dare to say there is nothing like being with a good friend. They love you for who you are right where you are. Your real friends are the ones who can come to your house when it looks awful and there’s no pressure to clean up before they come over. Your friends laugh with you about the secret embarrassing stories that you wouldn’t dare tell anyone else. They know what cheers you up when you are sad and they know your deepest fears and greatest aspirations for the future.
I have called you my friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.
Jesus calls us His friends! He looks at you and me and He sees people He wants to talk to and be close with. He doesn’t want you to keep up appearances or try to impress Him; He wants an authentic relationship. He wants you to be comfortable with Him, because He’s comfortable with you – messes, mistakes, and all. Are you willing to let Him be that kind of friend to you?
